Terms of Use

Terms of Use

Effective: August 2026

The Short Version

Croma is free to use. You own everything you create. We provide the software as-is with no warranties. Use it for anything lawful.

What You Are Agreeing To

By using any Croma app (Pixel, Books, Story), you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the software. The apps are provided at no cost and require no account or sign-up.

Your Content and Intellectual Property

This is the most important section:

  • You own everything you create. Croma claims no rights, license, or ownership over any content you produce using our tools.
  • Your images, manuscripts, stories, and any other creative output belong entirely to you.
  • Since content never leaves your device (except when you explicitly use AI features in Pixel), we never have access to your work.
  • Croma does not use your content for training, marketing, analytics, or any other purpose.

License to Use Croma

Croma grants you a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to use the apps for any lawful purpose, whether personal, commercial, or educational.

  • There are no usage tiers, feature restrictions, or watermarks.
  • Commercial use is fully permitted.
  • This license does not transfer ownership of the Croma software itself.

Acceptable Use

We keep this minimal:

  • Do not misrepresent Croma as your own product or redistribute it under a different name.
  • Do not use Croma to produce content that violates applicable law in your jurisdiction.

We do not monitor your usage or content. We cannot; it is local to your device.

No Warranty

Croma is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied. Specifically:

  • We do not guarantee uninterrupted availability, bug-free operation, or fitness for any particular purpose.
  • Browser updates, operating system changes, or hardware limitations may affect functionality.
  • You are responsible for maintaining backups of your work. Croma stores project data in your browser's local storage, which can be cleared by browser updates, cache clearing, or device changes.

Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Croma and its creators are not liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use or inability to use the software.

This includes but is not limited to: data loss, corrupted files, missed deadlines, or any damages resulting from reliance on the software. Since the software runs locally on your device, you bear responsibility for your device's security and data integrity.

Browser Compatibility

Croma is designed for modern Chromium-based browsers (Chrome, Edge, Brave, Arc). Safari and Firefox are supported with known limitations:

  • The File System Access API (used for save/open dialogs) is only available in Chromium browsers. Other browsers fall back to standard download/upload.
  • Some Web APIs (OffscreenCanvas, certain IndexedDB behaviors) may vary across browser engines.
  • We do not guarantee identical functionality across all browsers or all versions.

For the best experience, use an up-to-date Chromium-based browser.

File Format Disclaimer

  • Croma uses its own file formats (.book, .croma-story) alongside standard formats (PNG, JPEG, EPUB, PDF).
  • Export to standard formats involves conversion and may not preserve all app-specific features or metadata.
  • Import of third-party formats (PSD, EPUB from other tools) is best-effort and may not support all features of those formats.
  • Always verify exported files meet your requirements before relying on them for production or publication.

AI Features (Pixel)

  • AI features in Pixel are optional and require you to provide your own API key for a third-party AI provider.
  • When you use AI features, data is transmitted directly from your browser to the AI provider you selected.
  • Croma is not responsible for how third-party AI providers handle your data. Their terms and privacy policies apply.
  • You are responsible for ensuring your use of AI features complies with applicable laws and the provider's terms of service.

Third-Party Code

Croma may include open-source libraries (for example, JSZip for EPUB export or similar utilities). These libraries retain their original licenses. Attribution and license information is available in the source code where applicable.

Modifications to These Terms

These terms may be updated from time to time. The effective date at the top of this page indicates the latest revision. Continued use of Croma after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.

Since there are no accounts or contact mechanisms, checking this page is the only way to see updates.

Governing Law

These terms are governed by and construed in accordance with applicable law. Any disputes arising from or related to these terms or your use of Croma will be resolved in accordance with the laws of the jurisdiction in which Croma operates.
